This web address links to a contribution form for Northeast Tennessee Democrat Resource Center. Nothing could be simpler – just use this link on your web site, your e-mail, or your blog post, and you're all set!

See below for advanced options.

Put a contribution box on your web page

Enter an amount into this form, and you'll be on your way to making a contribution to Northeast Tennessee Democrat Resource Center:

My contribution: $

To put this form on your own website, just copy and paste the following HTML code:

You can of course change the formatting and language as you see fit.

To see examples of this technique in action, take a look at how Eric Massa and Ben Shuldiner make the "ask" right on their own web pages.

See below for advanced options.

Create a full-blown fundraising page

To create a full-blown fundraising page with your own customized text, candidate picture, and a public display of fundraising progress, just click the "Fundraise with ActBlue" button below.

You'll be asked to sign up for an ActBlue account (or log in if you already have one) and then you'll fill in the text for your page. You can make changes at any time, so don't worry about getting everything right all at once.

This method is only a touch more work, and we think it's the most effective.

Sell tickets to an event

You can also sell tickets to an event &mdash you'll create a page just like the fundraising pages described above, except that you'll be asked to specify donor levels and ticket prices. Just click the button below to get started.

Plan an Event

Turn your supporters into fundraisers

OK, here's where it gets fun:

Anyone can use the "Fundraise with ActBlue" button above to create a fundraising page for your campaign. All you need to do is put the button on your page and make sure people see it! To put the button on your own web site, just copy and paste the following HTML code:

If you'd prefer to just give people a link, here it is: http://www.actblue.com/pages/new/19116

Advanced options: preset amounts, monthly giving, and more

You can extend the above techniques to create links and forms for preset contribution amounts, recurring monthly contributions, etc. Here's how:

Making links with advanced options

To use these advanced options, start with the link above, and then add a '?' and the string of characters for the option as described. Don't worry if you've never done this before — there are examples below to help you out. If you like, you can right-click on the example links to copy them to your clipboard, then paste them into your own email or webpage.

(To use these options in combination, put an '&' between them.)

  • To create a link for a specified contribution amount:
    amount=dollarvalue
    Example: Click here to give ten dollars.
  • To create a link for a recurring monthly contribution:
    recurring=numberofmonths
    This works well in combination with the "amount" option above.
    Example: Click here to give ten dollars each month for six months.
  • To mark contributions with a referral code:
    refcode=alphanumericstring
    Use this option if you want to know which contributions resulted from this specific link — e.g. to gauge the effectiveness of a certain e-mail, or to mark contributions as being raised by a specific fundraiser.
    Example: RSVP for our June 15 event
  • To specify a thank-you page:
    successuri=http://mywebsite.com/thankyou.html
    Use this option to indicate the page to which users should be taken after a successful contribution.
  • To specify the page to which users should be directed if they cancel before completion:
    referrer=http://mywebsite.com

(Note that if your successuri or referrer web addresses have special characters like '?', '+', '=', or spaces in them, you may need to use the escaped version of those web addresses. Don't worry if you don't know what this means — it probably doesn't affect you.)

Making contribution boxes with advanced options

You can use the contribution box approach from above with these more advanced options by modifying the HTML code as described here. You can of course use these in combination.

  • To set a default amount for the contribution box:
    In the third line, change the code
    name="amount" size="8"
    to
    name="amount" value="dollaramount" size="8"
    replacing dollaramount with the default value for the contribution.
  • To repeat the contribution monthly:
    Right before the </form> at the end, add the line
    <input type="hidden" name="recurring" value="numberofmonths">
    This works well in combination with the "amount" option above.
  • To mark contributions with a referral code:
    Right before the </form> at the end, add the line
    <input type="hidden" name="refcode" value="alphanumericstring">
  • To specify a thank-you page:
    Toward the end of the code, change the line
    name="successuri" value="http://www.democratresourcecenter.org/"
    to
    name="successuri" value="http://URLforYourThankYouPage"
  • To specify the page to which users should be directed if they cancel before completion:
    Toward the end of the code, change the line
    name="referrer" value="http://www.democratresourcecenter.org/"
    to
    name="referrer" value="http://URLforYourRedirectPage"
