Image of Tim Walz

Tim Walz

MN-01 (Map)

Tim Walz is a Fighting Dem with strong netroots support. He’s running in a swing district that was held by a Democrat until 1994. Now it’s time to return that favor and make this district blue once more.

Dan Seals

IL-10 (Map)

Seals has lit the local scene on fire and is one of those rare candidates that has widespread local grassroots support as well as great respect from the DCCC. Whether they pour money into this district remains to be seen, but we can help raise the profile of this race and give dedicated, hard-working folks running and volunteering for this campaign a friendly assist.

Image of John Courage

John Courage

TX-21 (Map)

Courage is a married father of four, an Air Force veteran, a teacher, and an honest guy who had, well, the courage to run against the odds. And now the odds are running in his favor. He’s facing a very vulnerable Lamar Smith, the leader of the House Ethics Committee who sought to change the rules to protect Tom Delay. Courage is truly beloved by the Texas netroots.

Image of Gary Trauner

Gary Trauner

WY-01 (Map)

This might be the sleeper race of the year. Incumbent Barbara Cubin is deeply unpopular in her home state. She took just 55% of the vote in 2004, far, far behind George Bush’s 69%. On the fundraising front, Trauner actually had more cash-on-hand than Cubin at the end of the second quarter.
And he’s been an extremely aggressive candidate, knocking on literally TEN THOUSAND doors at the most recent count. Keep your eye on this race – we just might shock the country right here in Wyoming.

Image of Larry Grant

Larry Grant

ID-01 (Map)

Larry Grant is courageously running in one of the deepest-red districts in the nation. But he’s got a lot going for him. For one, Idaho is an incredibly cheap place to do business, so your dollars go along way here. For another, this is an open seat, and, in fact, a Democrat held this district until 1994.
Then there’s Grant’s opponent, Bill Sali, one of the most despised Republicans in the state, including by members of his own party. Indeed, prominent disaffected GOPers have gotten behind the Democrat with a group called “Republicans for Grant.” And, finally, the local netroots scene is positively on fire. See below for more.

Image of Paul Hodes

Paul Hodes

NH-02 (Map)

Paul Hodes’ campaign fits the “Northeast Strategy” to a T. An aggressive former prosecutor who has sent environmental criminals to jail, Hodes is taking on an out-of-touch Republican incumbent in this blue-leaning district. (NH-02 voted for Kerry over Bush by a 52-47 margin.) Hodes’ strong progressive values are the perfect antidote to Republican corruption both in Washington and in New Hampshire.

Image of Linda Stender

Linda Stender

NJ-07 (Map)

Linda Stender is running as a strong progressive against right-wing rich kid Mike Ferguson. NJ-07 is a north-central district that is an economic satellite of New York City and is trending blue. If Stender wins, she’ll be the only woman in the New Jersey delegation, and she’ll also be an outspoken and effective legislator in Congress.

Jay Fawcett is an Air Force (and Gulf War) vet right in the heart of Air Force territory (the Air Force Academy is in Colorado Springs). This is deep-red Focus on the Family’s James Dobson territory, and Fawcett is vastly outperforming expectations as he pursues this open-seat run.

Image of Larry Kissell

Larry Kissell

NC-08 (Map)

Larry Kissell is a social studies teacher running as a strong progressive in a district hit hard by unfair trade agreements. His opponent, Robin Hayes, is disliked for promising to vote against CAFTA and then caving in to Republican pressure to vote for it. Kissell is loved by local netroots and progressive activists; he even makes cynical political insiders take a second look.

Image of Eric Massa

Eric Massa

NY-29 (Map)

Eric Massa is a fighting Democrat in the 29th district in New York facing freshman Congressman Randy Kuhl. After the first term is when most new Congressmen are defeated, so this is a good time to go after Kuhl. Massa’s military background and whip-smart common sense leadership style make him perfect for this rural district.

Image of Patrick Murphy

Patrick Murphy

PA-08 (Map)

Patrick is not only supported by the local netroots scene in Philly, he is a member of the local netroots scene in Philly. He is an Iraq war vet who supports Rep. John Murtha’s withdrawal plan, and a dynamic, young speaker who has the potential for progressive greatness. This is a winnable district, one that both Gore and Kerry won by around 4%, and is backed up by the nation’s strongest local netroots scene. This is also the district where the netroots made history by supporting Ginny Schrader, and where the incumbent, Michael Fitzpatrick, is trying to curb the netroots through federal legislation.

Image of Jerry McNerney

Jerry McNerney

CA-11 (Map)

Jerry McNerney is not just the next netroots candidate – he is also the next progressive movement candidate. Already, he has won the Democracy for America Grassroots All-Star voting, and earlier this cycle, his people-powered campaign comfortably defeated the DCCC backed candidate in a contested primary. He entered politics as part of the 50-state strategy, and because his son joined the Air Force after September 11th. Eschewing the politics of triangulation in favor of a progressive message, he is a wind energy expert who has a Ph.D. in math.

James Webb ran the ultimate people-powered primary campaign, winning his primary against his institutionally-backed opponent despite huge disadvantages in fundraising. Virginia bloggers have led the way showing the power of the netroots to create buzz and organization for good candidates, and Webb has not disappointed, quickly catapulting the Virginia Senate race – seen as sleepy just a few months ago – to one of the most interesting and seriously contested in the nation.

BlogPAC

BlogPAC is a political action committee designed by bloggers for bloggers and blog readers. Rather than operating primarily as a means to channel money to electoral campaigns (ActBlue already does an excellent job at that), under the new management of Chris Bowers and Matt Stoller of
MyDD.com, the primary mission of BlogPAC is to defend the netroots and improve the quality of online activism. BlogPAC is already well under way in its new mission.
BlogPAC is currently looking to raise $15,000. As an organization that is of, for and by the netroots, BlogPAC also aims to be from the netroots. Our donors will receive e-mail updates and invitations to conference calls that will allow them to have a voice in new campaigns we undertake. Supporting BlogPAC means joining BlogPAC, and taking part in the fight to defend the netroots.
