Greetings friends and family,
Our campaign is really heating up! We have just 74 more days until we send Gordon Smith back to Eastern Oregon. Smith knows he’s vulnerable, which is why his campaign is spending more than $30,000 a day on television ads aimed to mislead Oregonians about Jeff Merkley’s stellar record as House Speaker.
While media outlets in Oregon and nationally have have declared that Gordon Smith is the most vulnerable Republican in the country, public polling confirms that Smith is in real trouble. Not one poll has showed him at or above 50%.
We feel good about that, and I wanted to share a few highlights to illustrate the great work our campaign is doing:
We outraised Gordon Smith last quarter, which is a huge feat when you’re running as a challenger.
In July, Speaker Merkley visited Netroots Nation in Austin where he mingled with members of the blogosphere. The buzz was contagious!
Earlier this summer, we launched our “100 Town Tour for Change” in an effort to send Jeff to every corner of the state. We’ve currently visited 88 towns with plans to visit the rest within 100 days!
This month we kicked off our “100 Homes for Change” grassroots house party program. We had our first statewide party this week with special guest Howard Dean calling in to pump up the grassroots.
And now, in the spirit of 100 Towns and 100 Homes, I’m kicking off the “100 Friends of Courtney” fundraising challenge! I know that all of you care about the future of this country. And you may wonder what Oregon has to do with you. So let me tell you why it matters.
We have an opportunity to break the gridlock in Washington by electing more Democrats to the U.S. Senate. Here in Oregon we have an incredible opportunity to help get that filibuster-proof majority. But with an opponent who will stop at nothing to twist Jeff’s record, we have to raise the money to set the record straight on the air. That’s why I’m asking all of you to please consider donating $25, $50, or $100 to Jeff Merkley for Oregon.
If each of you contribute to this campaign, you will be a stakeholder in one of the most targeted races in the country. Plus, you’ll help me reach my goal of getting 100 friends to donate to Jeff Merkley for Oregon.
