A progressive voice in the deep south running against a corrupt incumbent (William Jefferson, the guy with the $90,000 the FBI found in his feezer). Jefferson is also a hypocrite – he’s voted both pro-gay and pro-choice in the past, but now is bashing Carter for being – what? – pro-gay and pro-choice. The Democrats don’t need a gay-bashing, choice-bashing hypocritical crook.
