Over the last four years we have helped elect EIGHT new Democratic women to the Texas House of Representatives. With just seven seats to take back the chamber before the 2011 redistricting process, it is critical that we protect all of our incumbents in 2008 and 2010. Please support these women now so that they have the resources to communicate their successes in the 80th Legislative Session to their constituents and build up their war chests for the battle in 2008. Thank you in advance for your support and on to victory!

Paula Hightower-Pierson

TX-HD-93

Rep. Pierson was elected by less than 500 votes in 2006 in this conservative Arlington district. A Republican opponent has already filed to run against her and is aggressively raising money.

Veronica Gonzales

TX-HD-41

There is a misconception that all of the seats in the Rio Grande Valley are safely Democratic. However, HD-41 is still in the margins of a swing district and Rep. Gonzales will be facing an independately wealthy Republican opponent named Javier Villalobos in 2008.

Valinda Bolton

TX-HD-47

On Saturday, August 25th the Austin American-Statesman announced that Bill Welch, who spent a staggering $1.2 million in 2006, is gearing up for a rematch against now Rep. Bolton. She garnered 50.5% of the vote then and will have to run another smart and lean campaign to hold her seat.

Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles

TX-HD-35

Rep. Gonzalez Toureilles has one of the largest state legislative districts in America and has the largest population of any seat in Texas. Her mostly rural South Texas district stretches to the media markets of San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Victoria and the Rio Grande Valley. Because of the make-up of this district, she faces a tough re-election battle every cycle.

Ellen Cohen

TX-HD-134

Rep. Cohen represents one of the most affluent and highly educated districts in Texas. Though she trounced the embattled Republican incumbent in 2006, this remains to be a conservative leaning district that Republicans are unlikely to write-off in 2008.

Donna Howard

TX-HD-48

Elected in a closely watched special election on Valentine’s Day last year, Rep. Howard’s victory turned out to be a bellweather for good things to come for Democrats across the state. No opponent has appeared against her for 2008 yet, but this another district that the Republican leadership is unlikely to forget about.

Jessica Farrar

TX-HD-148

Rep. Farrar is the most senior of the Annie’s List incumbents and consistently plays a pivotol role in blocking anti-choice and anti-women’s health legislation in the House. We are hoping that Jessica can avoid a primary opponent but would not be surprised if Speaker Craddick funded a DINO (Democrat in Name Only) challenger in 2008.

Alma Allen

TX-HD-131

Elected in the 2004 primary, this is a safe Democratic seat in Houston. We are hoping that Rep. Allen can avoid a primary opponent but would not be surprised if Speaker Craddick funded a DINO (Democrat in Name Only) challenger in 2008.

Ana Hernandez

TX-HD-143

Elected in a 2005 special election, this is a safe Democratic seat in Houston. We are hoping that Rep. Hernandez can avoid a primary opponent but would not be surprised if Speaker Craddick funded a DINO (Democrat in Name Only) challenger in 2008.
