On May 6, 2009, Maine was the fifth state in the United States to legalize same sex marriage. Passed by the legislature, the law was immediately signed by Governor Baldacci who said, "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and equal protection under the law and that a civil union is not equal to a civil marriage." Unfortunately, there are many opponents who do not believe in fairness and equality, including the Roman Catholic Church. They have been busy gathering signatures to put a referendum on the ballot to repeal the law. There is no doubt that this will be a bitterly fought campaign, but I believe in the intelligence of Maine voters who will vote for equality for all Maine citizens come election day in November. Still, resources will be needed to inform and educate voters about the issue so that they are able to make the right choice and NOT repeal a law that has strong support of citizens throughout the state of Maine. That is why Bristlecone Pine Press is supporting Protect Maine Equality/No On 1 in their fight to preserve equality and fairness for Maine citizens through the sales of Taming Groomzilla. I hope you will support our efforts through the purchase of the book and letting others know about what we are doing. Thanks for your help!
