The Best Democracy Money Can Buy

Okay, so we hear a lot these days about there being too much money in politics. I agree—BUT until we have meaningful campaign finance reform, I’m not about to sit on the sidelines and let the heavy-hitters continue to buy our representatives.
Please give what you can to the following candidates. Each of the individuals below will win this November based on grassroots support from people like you. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you can give—whether it’s $5 or $500, it’ll send a message that this year, Republicans can’t buy their way into office without a fight.

A friend of mine is working on Ellen Simon’s campaign and can’t say enough kind things about her. She’s smart, tough, and an outsider to professional politics, unlike her opponent, two-term Congressman Rick Renzi, who is proud to be one of the “13 Most Corrupt” Congressmen.

I met Diane Farrell during her first campaign for this seat in 2004. She is extremely impressive and would bring a great deal of class to the U.S. Congress. In 2004, she lost to the incumbent Republican Chris Shays 52-48%, which is remarkable considering Shays has held office since 1987. Farrell is taking him on again, and this time, I think she’ll win.

In what could be another election split by a third party running for office, the Democratic nominee needs support to ensure Democratic votes aren’t split between him and Joe Lieberman, who is running as an Independent.

This is one of the hottest Senate races in the country. Tester is a real threat to Conrad Burns, a nasty old guy with ties to Jack Abramoff who has been in office since 1989.

I dislike Rick Santorum so much that I can’t even put it into words. Bob Casey offers a real change in direction from Santorum’s preach-and-overreach conservatism.

Kissell has an amazing base of support in his community, as well as the netroots community. Help him show North Carolina that change can be a good thing!

Stephanie Herseth won by a slim margin in 2004. And no doubt, the Republicans will try to take her out this year. I met her in DC in 2004 and could see immediately that she’s exactly the kind of person we need in Congress.

How could you not like a doctor from Wisconsin? He is genuine, smart, and caring, and will do things for Wisconsin and the U.S. based on sound judgment instead of what is politically smart.
