MD-Sen General Election Fund

MD-Sen (Map)

Republicans have a good candidate in Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, but Democratic Rep. Ben Cardin has the edge. Rasmussen released a poll showing Cardin leading Steele, 45% to 40%... Cardin’s strength lies with moderate whites in the Baltimore suburbs…the very voters who decide Maryland elections.
Leans democratic.

Image of Jon Tester

Jon Tester

MT-Sen (Map)

State Senate President Jon Tester (D) has taken to campaigning already. Burns’ reelect numbers are tepid, and he has a reputation for getting weaker and weaker as Election Day approaches.
Leans republican; recent democratic sweep of the governor’s mansion and both house and senate have turned MT the bluest of the red states.

Image of Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton

NY-Sen (Map)

Not only is Hillary popular at home and increasingly well-liked nationally, but Republican Gov. Pataki has just announced his retirement, causing most New York Republicans to focus their sights on Albany. A Clinton victory is now almost certain, no matter who runs, as is an Eliot Spitzer victory at the top of the Empire State ballot.
Solid democratic; included here because I am becoming more and more a supporter of Clinton 2008.

OH-Sen General Election Fund

OH-Sen (Map)

DeWine’s approval ratings are weak, but Ohio Democrats can’t get their act together and recruit a candidate… Nevertheless, the Ohio GOP machine is getting more vulnerable every day, and DeWine might just be a casualty.
Likely republican; Ohio used to be solid democratic statewide but fell out about 15 years ago. With the right candidate, we can win this election. I prefer Jerry Springer myself.

Image of Bob Casey

Bob Casey

PA-Sen (Map)

So far this is the only Senate seat most are expecting to change party hands in 2006. Pennsylvania voters may finally have figured out that Santorum is a right-winger, because every single poll shows Democratic State Auditor Bob Casey Jr. leading Santorum. Rasmussen had a poll in late July showing Casey at 52% and Santorum at 41%.
Lean democratic; although I am pro-choice, pro-life Casey may be our best chance to kick Santorum out of the Senate.

RI-Sen General Election Fund

RI-Sen (Map)

He is already a Republican representing a heavily Democratic state. But there is so much more. Chafee’s support is lackluster: he is polling in the low 40’s (anywhere from 41% to 44%) against his two Democratic challengers, neither of whom are high-profile candidates. And Chafee’s fundraising is ridiculous; one wonders if he even wants another term.
Toss-Up; another Pennsylvania, I think.

Image of Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders

VT-Sen (Map)

Jeffords is retiring for health reasons, but Rep. Bernie Sanders, a fellow Independent, is running for his seat and is a favorite to win. Sanders, the most liberal member of Congress, is wildly popular in Vermont and has been polling above 60% to win this seat. He will win, with no Democratic opposition and probably only sacrificial lamb GOP opposition.
Solid independent.

Image of Maria Cantwell

Maria Cantwell

WA-Sen (Map)

Republicans were not able to recruit almost-Gov. Dino Rossi, so Cantwell’s opponent will probably be former Safeco CEO Mike McGavick. McGavick is loaded with $, but that’s about it, and Cantwell’s popularity is on the upswing. I just don’t see McGavick winning this one.
Likely democratic.

Image of Robert Byrd

Robert Byrd

WV-Sen (Map)

Republicans are gunning for this one, on the hopes that GOP-trending West Virginia will finally kick out Byrd, or that they can force Byrd into retirement by upsetting him. However, he’s fighting and has said numerous times he will run for a ninth term.
Lean to solid democratic; most important liberal Senator-in-red state seat to hold.
