Frank can turn the First Congressional District of Maryland Blue. Why? 1) Frank is a great candidate. Frank Kratovil is the Queen Anne's County States Attorney, has an impecable record, and is a lifelong Democrat. He was even President of Maryland Young Democrats when he was younger. He is also from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which has its own political culture and comprises half the district's population. Having listened to him speak at the Blue Catapult event for him recently, it is clear that he has the message to attract these voters. 2) This is now an Open Seat . With moderate incumbent Wayne Gilchrest losing his primary to an ultra-conservative, out-of-touch candidate, Frank will have a chance to attract voters who haven't voted for Democrats for a while. Gilchrest has not endorsed the GOP candidate and some of his former staffers are helping Frank. 3) Frank's Opponent is too conservative for the District. The right-wing group "Club for Growth put in around $1 million in support of state Senator Andy Harris for one reason: He will preserve the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. First District Voters like independence from their representatives -- and there are many more issues than taxes that they are concerned about.
