Dear Friends,

We’re halfway through August. Our kids are headed back to school, and my campaign is headed into the fall stronger than ever because of you. Your generous support has made all this possible, and I know I can count on you to help me meet my pre-primary goal by midnight tonight. I get the opportunity to talk to people around my district every day, and I am convinced that we can find common sense solutions to our problems that will help my neighbors in Arizona and people all across our country. That’s why I decided to run for Congress – I believe in this country and our ability to work together for the common good.

My opponent has chosen another direction. Instead of coming home to Arizona to talk to his constituents, John Shadegg chose to stay in Washington to talk to himself. Along with a handful of other far right members, Shadegg decided the best way to address our energy crisis was to make a spectacle of himself on the floor of the House during the Congressional recess. That’s not surprising from a man who says being in Congress is “so boring” and has gotten only ten bills signed into law after nearly 7 terms.

Shadegg even went so far as to call the circus he’s running a “New Boston Tea Party.” It might not be a bad idea for him to get back to school as well. The real Boston Tea Party was spurred by the British government giving a massive tax break to one of their favorite monopolies as part of a larger goal to stop American competition outright. I’d say John Shadegg’s long record of giving handouts to oil and gas interests and his votes against renewable energy, higher efficiency standards, and protecting consumers from price gouging put him on the wrong side of that analogy and more importantly on the wrong side of history.

Every time I walk out into the Arizona sunshine, I know we can achieve energy independence. The scientists and the small business owners working on solar power, renewable fuels, wind energy and other energy sources are the ones who will deserve a place in our history books, not John Shadegg. But his financial support from the oil and gas industries is formidable, and I need your support to beat him and bring that mindset to Washington.

Our pre-primary deadline is tonight , August 13th, at midnight, and I know I can count on you to help me replace showmanship with workmanship in the halls of Congress. I’m confident we can raise $2,500 by then to meet our goal and keep me fighting as we move into the fall. Whether you can afford $100, $50 or just $10, your contribution will make the difference, so please contribute today!

Thank you again for all your support,

Bob Lord
