Our new round of global candidates all come from the great State of Minnesota! We're very excited by these outstanding candidates, who have shown with their words and actions that they will work on the global problems we face today, from the environment to genocide to nuclear proliferation. These races are critical to the November elections. Please help them get elected to Congress!

Throughout his career in the public eye, Al Franken has never shied away from telling things as he sees it. When questioned about how he sees the United States’ role in the world, he states that “there is a difference between leading the world and ruling it. We must work with our allies - and talk with our adversaries - in order to build a more peaceful and more prosperous world.” With his strong beliefs and outspoken personality, he will be a tremendous ally to have in the U.S. Senate.

Congresswoman Betty McCollum has been a great leader for global cooperation, particularly through her role on both the Appropriations and Oversight and Government Reform Committees. This year she introduced language into the appropriations budget to counter anti-International Criminal Court provisions for economic aid. She consistently earns high marks on our annual Congressional Report Card, receiving an A+ this year with extra credit for her work on global health and service issues.

Steve Sarvi is a 20-year U.S. Army veteran in addition to being a former Mayor and city administrator. He's got a tough race against Rep. John Kline in the Twin Cities suburbs. Throughout his career in the military, Sarvi has seen how unilateralist policies have had a negative effect on U.S. interests in the world, particularly concerning treatment of detainees. He said that “our actions at Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, for example, demonstrated a capacity to compromise our values in order to achieve short-term goals. We've lost moral authority. We must reclaim liberty and justice as the hallmarks of our values, wherever we are in the world.” His experience, courage and thoughtfulness are needed in Congress.
