Count Every Ballot

<blurb>Preliminary vote counts of the November 3 election indicate that Laurie Caskey-Schreiber has lost her seat on the Whatcom County Council. Dan McShane is ahead by just 500 votes. The balance of the Whatcom County Council hangs on whether or not Dan stays ahead of his opponent.

We plan to fight for every vote but need your help now more than ever. Some ballots have been set aside, because the signature doesn’t match, and they won’t get counted unless the voter proves it’s really their legitimate ballot.

Everything we’ve done to get to this point, we have to do again and quickly. We have to raise money right now to keep an environmental, Democratic majority on the Whatcom County Council. We have to contact voters and we have to send people door to door to get ballots signed and counted. This effort will be coordinated by the Whatcom Democrats.

Every vote counts and we intend to make sure they’re counted.

This is what my opponent wrote regarding a local protest shortly before she filed to run for office:
“We are fed up with paying for your mortgages, your healthcare, your education, your car, your food, your childcare, your publicly supported basket weaving classes, your rehab, your credit card debt, your debt in general, your retirement… and the list goes on. We would like you to pay for these things yourself.”

Since then she’s said very little about her positions except that she opposes a protected forest reserve in the Lake Whatcom watershed and she opposes protecting farmland.

Carl Weimer, Ken Mann and Bob Kelly can’t do this alone. We need a fourth vote to keep the majority. Without that, Whatcom County will see a steady loss of farmland to development and we will not have the political will to protect our water supply. Your support is vital to our success -- take this opportunity and donate today to the Whatcom Democrats.
