Our candidate prefers getting out in the community and listening to the concerns of the people. Spending valuable time calling “big donors” every moment of every day seems wasteful to him.
Our campaign is growing. We have a six-figure operating budget. We have found support among the Veterans Alliance for Security and Democracy, former Senator Max Cleland, and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sammy L. Davis. However, despite our recent accomplishments, David has changed very little. Most of our donations still come from people who just genuinely liked David after meeting him. High profile, $1000 per plate dinner functions and black-tie fundraisers will never be David’s style. He believes in a more inclusive political system, one in which everyone is invited to participate. Rest assured, no matter how close this race gets, you won’t find David Sanders eating crab cakes with any “Forbes 500” CEOs anytime in the near-future.
The reason is simple: David knows his supporters. And many of his supporters are working people. They hold down one or more full-time jobs. They are single mothers, veterans, college students, and retired people. Some are facing growing medical expenses. Others lack enough money to pay for groceries and health care. What they share, however, is strong desire to have a Congressman who will fight for their interests in Washington. Helping others out of tough times is what inspired many of us to become Democrats, and it’s what motivates David in his tireless campaign for a seat in the United States Congress.
In brainstorming for a way to generate additional funding, yet preserve the values that have won David a lot of supporters, we at the Sanders for Congress campaign arrived at a new fundraising initiative: âGive Dave a Five”
Basically, we have decided to seek out 5$. Thatâs it. If you have more to give, we accept and appreciate your generosity. However, consistent with David’s beliefs, asking for only $5 allows EVERYONE to participate in our campaign and the political process. We want Sanders supporters to feel invested in David’s campaign. We want them to feel part of the team. .
