<blurb>One interesting feature of running for political office is that you're constantly asked "how are things on the campaign?" It's kind of a political version of "how are you?", in that it means different things to different people, and it's sometimes hard to answer in a concise way. So let me give it a shot in this public forum.
You may have seen last week's newspaper headline "Biss fund-raising outpaces Coulson" or you may have heard me on Thom Hartmann's nationally syndicated radio program. Maybe you're one of the dozens of volunteers who participated in our campaign in the last week alone, or maybe you live in the half of the district I've walked since the primary.
In other words, with under 100 days until the election, the momentum, energy, and enthusiasm are on our side in this campaign for change.
But here's the problem. We know that the Republican Party, PACs, and corporate special interests are gearing up to do whatever it takes to stop us. We know this because they've done it many times before in this district and across the state. We know this because they've already begun in this campaign.
Most of all, we know it because we understand that the system we're trying to change is one where entrenched incumbents have access to unlimited resources.
And what do we have access to? We have access to us.
The good news is that every single time I've asked this community to come together on behalf of the campaign, you've exceeded every expectation. The bad news is that this means I have to keep asking.
The better news is that this means that we're building a genuinely new type of campaign, one that will fundamentally transform the political culture in Springfield.
And the very best news is that we have an opportunity today to renew our commitment to reform Springfield. The Republican incumbent raised $2,500 in a single contribution from an out-of-state insurance company last month*. I'm asking you to help raise $2,500 this week to combat the special interest money that will be spent against us in the coming months. I just gave the first $50. Can you please join me?<br/ >

Thank you so much!</blurb>
