In 2006 and 2008, the American people voted for progressive change. First we elected a Democratic Congress in 2006, then we elected President Barack Obama in 2008.

But little has changed. Why? Because powerful corporations and their backroom lobbyists still control the entire Republican Party and much of the media, especially FOX. They also control BlueDog "Democrats" who betray the Democratic Party on every important issue.

In 2010, we must replace these corrupt Republicans and BlueDog "Democrats" with a new generation of progressive Democrats. That's why we're supporting a nationwide slate of candidates who endorse our simple platform: Jobs Not Wars.

Jobs: George Bush's recession pushed official unemployment over 10%, and unofficial unemployment near 20%. Among minorities and youth, unemployment is near 40%. We need an emergency program to create millions of jobs.

Not Wars: Our candidates will bring all of our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan, which would save $170 billion each year to pay for jobs and other urgent needs.

Of course our candidates also support all our other progressive goals:

  • Medicare for All (Single Payer) H.R. 676, which would guarantee quality healthcare to all Americans, just like the healthcare guaranteed to citizens of every other advanced nation
  • Regulating corporate greed and recovering bailout funds
  • Ending torture and warrantless wiretapping
  • Helping workers organize unions by passing the Employee Free Choice Act
  • Equality and justice for all
  • Clean and honest elections through public financing and verified voting
  • Please support our "Jobs Not Wars" candidates as generously as you can!

Jonathan Tasini is running as a proud progressive in the open seat vacated by former Sen. Hillary Clinton.

For three decades, Tasini has been a union leader and organizer, a social activist, and a blogger who focuses on work, labor and the economy.

From 1990 to 2003, Tasini served as president of the National Writers Union (United Auto Workers Local 1981) and tripled its size, fighting for the rights of freelance writers.

His close-up experience with the health insurance crisis for creative workers inspired him to make Medicare For All a central plank of his Senate campaign.

In 2006, Tasini ran a long-shot primary against Sen. Clinton to fight for single-payer health care and to end the disastrous war in Iraq. Now Tasini is running against Kirsten Gillibrand, a little-known upstate Representative who was appointed by party bosses to fill Sen. Clinton's seat.

State Senator Regina Thomas is running against one of the worst of the Blue Dog Democrats, John Barrow. In 2008 she took him on, only to see Barack Obama come in with a blazing endorsement. Barrow returned the favor by voting against almost every important item on the president's agenda, including the historic health care reform bill-- although not before he took the opportunity to vote for the Stupak Amendment that would severely restrict women's right to choice. Regina differs with him in both instances and there is a growing consensus in Georgia's sprawling 12th CD that it's time for Barrow to move back to Athens.

Marcy Winograd is challenging BlueDog incumbent Jane Harman in the Democratic primary in June 2010. Winograd came close to beating Harman in 2006, when she won 38%. Winograd's very first TV ad focuses on the need for Single Payer healthcare - let's contribute so she can run this great ad throughout the campaign!
