Dean Dozens in Swing States

by Democracy for America

This page lists the House and Senate Candidates in swing states endorsed by Democracy for America, formerly Dean for America. This candidate list was reproduced by ActBlue from the DFA candidate page.

To win, we must confidently advance an agenda rooted in hope and real
American values: opportunity, integrity, corporate responsibility, and
community. People want back the country they believed in, a fair country
where middle-class people could make a decent living and send their kids to
college…
Democracy for America
will focus on key battleground states, mobilizing our supporters and the
groundbreaking organizing tools we developed during our campaign: planting
seeds on the Internet, meeting face to face at the grassroots, bringing new
people into the process. We will use these same tools to support
congressional, state, and local candidates across America who stand for our
principles.
The Democrats will win in November if we can continue the innovative
campaign techniques learned through our nominating process—and if we have
the have the courage to stand up and tell the truth about our stark
differences with this failed President.
Governor Howard Dean, March 17, 2004

Arizona’s first congressional district is one of the most competitive races in the country this year. And Babbitt is going to win because as a county supervisor who has called rural Arizona home for over 50 years, he knows what is important to people here.

Image of Stan Matsunaka

Stan Matsunaka

CO-04 (Map)

Stan Matsunaka isn’t going to let Marilyn Musgrave run unchallenged. Musgrave has failed the district socially and financially from education to health care. She has polarized the state and the nation by authoring the amendment to ban gay marriage. Musgrave uses her far-right views on GLBT issues and choice to grab national headlines while ignoring her constituent’s needs. Stan offers a mainstream alternative in a race we can win. He brings people together in Colorado around the issues they have in common: a need for affordable health care, jobs that don’t get exported, and excellence in education.

FL-Sen (Map)

In addition to being the best of the Democratic candidates in the primary, Betty is also the target of some horrible “independent expenditure” campaigns (much like Howard Dean was the victim of such low-ball tactics during the Iowa caucuses). Her campaign is bringing the people of Florida together, but she needs national support to keep the seat Democratic.

MO-Sen (Map)

Governor Howard Dean has been campaigning with Dean Dozen candidates and Nancy Farmer in St. Louis and Kansas City recently. In the race to win back the Senate, Farmer is one of our best hopes. She is a progressive up against one of George W. Bush’s staunchest conservative allies. It’s going to be close!

As a Korean War Veteran, a former educator and current State Senator from New Mexico, Richard Romero has the first hand experience with what we need in Congress. Richard is dedicated to finding a solution to our healthcare crisis, having already created a program to supply prescription drugs to seniors who don’t have any prescription drug benefits and sponsoring the Healthcare Act of 1995. Richard creates solutions for problems and in Congress he will continue to diligently find practical answers for citizens.

OH-01 (Map)

As a program manager for the inner city youth organization Public Allies/Americorps, Greg Harris was outraged by the irresponsible Bush tax cuts. Now Greg is running for Congress so he can oust ten year incumbent Steve Chabot, who was a leading advocate of the tax bill. Greg’s work with Citizens for Civic Renewal and years as a community organizer have given him insight into the many issues affecting Ohio and with your support, he will reclaim this seat for progressives.

OH-16 (Map)

When Jeff Seemann held a garage sale to make money for a booth for Governor Dean at a county fair, his dedication was unqualified. Now Jeff is taking the next step in activism and running for office. Jeff is facing 32 year incumbent Ralph Regula, an Ohio pro-choice Congressman who supports school vouchers. Change is in the air in this swing state and with your support Jeff can win this crucial race.

As a mother, lawyer and part time law professor, Lois Murphy knows about dedication and hard work. After working on Governor Ed Rendell’s successful race, Lois is ready to take on first term incumbent Jim Gerlach and his poor record on the economy and Medicare benefits. With Lois in office, PA will have a knowledgeable and skilled leader who will fight for legislation that will bring economic vitality back to PA. This is a swing district in a swing state and with your support Lois will take this must win seat.

If you care about a woman’s right to choose, give Ginny a call. Since the unexpected retirement of six-term incumbent Jim Greenwood in July, the race in Pennsylvania’s Eight District has skyrocketed to one of the most targeted and exciting races in the country. In selecting Ginny’s opponent, the Republicans turned to the right-wing pro-life county commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick. Given the moderate disposition of this district and Fitzpatrick’s disfavor with many moderates within his own party, this seat is an excellent opportunity for a Democratic pick-up. This district is critical to talking back the House, Senate and the White House.

Having already won the support of two dozen unions, Allyson now wants to bring the healthcare plan she developed in PA (which covers over 150,000 children) as well as her progressive educational reform ideas to Congress. Lets get Allyson to D.C., where her insight and determination can make a big difference!
