The issue before us is not merely how to regain a Democratic majority in the House. We should also be asking, who are these new representatives and how will they be different, what will they do to change the Democratic Party and the way business is conducted in Washington.
Donna Edwards has one of the most outstanding progressive records of any of this year’s challengers. She is running against a pro-war, business as usual Democrat in the Maryland primary on September 12. At the moment, she is given an even chance of winning, a remarkable achievement for any challenger facing the uphill climb against an entrenched seven-year incumbent.
The margin of difference will be decided by what she can raise in this last week to bring her progressive message on television throughout her district. She is aiming to raise $20,000 during this stretch. I have sent her campaign $500, which I know is a lot for most people, and certainly was for me. I am asking if you would consider contributing to her important effort by sending whatever you can afford – $50, $100, $250 or more if at all possible. If a lot of us participate at this point, our reward will be the addition of a brilliant champion of progressive values in the US House of Representatives.
