I don’t expect to see an opportunity like this again for a long time. John Edwards is the most progressive major candidate—perfect NARAL rating, firm opposition to the war, the best antipoverty proposals anywhere, and a spectacular plan for universal health care . He’s also the most likely to win the general election, as his head-to-head polls against Republicans never stop telling us. Congress will probably be solidly Democratic in 2009, and if he becomes president, he’ll be able to sell very progressive proposals in parts of the country where nobody else can. I’m sort of in awe of the possibilities here. Let’s do whatever we can to make him President.
