Recently, a 501c4 (like a 527, except they don’t have to disclose their donors because they claim to be “non-partisan”), has begun running a deceitful, fear-mongering attack ad against at least 16 vulnerable freshmen Democrats.
Watch the generic version of the ad here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTTTNe4Uyug
This ad is misleading for a number of reasons:

  • Last weekend, the Bush Administration acknowledged that the intelligence community is receiving all the information it needs to protect America while Congress works to craft a strong new FISA bill.

  • The Congress continues to work on a strong new FISA bill. In reality, even Senators who voted for the Senate bill have expressed a desire to see it improved in negotiations with the House.

  • The House Democrats didn’t “refuse” to vote. In reality the White House has boycotted negotiations and House Republicans voted unanimously against a 21 day extension the Democrats offered so they could have time to work out the constitutionally problematic parts of the bill. Clearly, the Republicans would rather have a political football than strong new FISA legislation, so the House Democrats called their bluff.

To help fight this, we need to show the 501c4 that these ads are actually benefiting the targets. To do this:

  1. Donate to any/all of the targeted freshmen below.

  2. Call Brian Wise, the Media Contact for this radical group, at (202) 207-3698 and tell him how his ad motivated you to donate.
