Exploratory Committee

by Elihu Eil El

Greetings,

I have launched an exploratory committee, the first step in a possible run for Delegate representing the 20th Legislative District of Maryland. During the following year, I hope to gauge voter interest in my future candidacy as well as to determine what is needed to revive and sustain Maryland’s economy. I also hope to receive input for businesses that may potentially contribute to Maryland’s economic growth. Prior to making a decision, it is vital that we meet in order to discuss the dynamics of your mission and ways legislation could be improved. Economic populism, family values, earned value, and common-sense would be the cornerstones of my possible campaign. Our economy has languished, and civility and common decency in government has perished. I hope to make you excited about my planned PROGRESSIVE CHANGE. Strategic Planning is the catalyst for progressive change. Strategic planning demands accurate predictions of the future, even though such predictions are impossible or demand frequent analysis. As Delegate, I will share with other state representatives how to get out of this paradox and break the trade-off between commitment and Lean Management in order to achieve results while reducing risks. Traditional politics encourages leadership by executive command. Progressive politics encourages leadership by vision and broad participation. Traditional politics relies upon a culture of unearned loyalty and obedience, with a subculture of alienation and labor strife. Progressive politics nurtures a harmonious culture of involvement based on long-term development of human resources. Traditional politicians mainly react to issues brought on by the media or for personal financial gain. Every Progressive politician is a problem-solver whom never ignores the social or financial burdens of his or her constituents. Traditional politics often sanctions structurally opaque policy-making and bureaucracy, whereas progressive politics is transparent.

A little more about me…No hidden agenda or ulterior motives here; I currently hold the title of Applications Architect. I work for the Enforcement (Law), Security, and Intelligence Division of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). Furthermore, I am an elected board member of the CSC Management Club. I am a programmer (.net, multi-tier, SQL, etc) by trade, but also have experience in systems engineering, performance engineering, configuration management, and CMMI. In the past, I have been required to get “down and dirty” to get the job done right. I’m not afraid to perform jobs that most people wouldn’t want to have. I have also honorably served our county. As a Combat Engineer and Certified Army Instructor, I have served in the United States Army Reserve for 14 years. I am a former member of the Southern States Police Benevolent and National Tactical Officers’ Associations. I am active within my community with a proud track-record of grassroots volunteerism. In 2007, I have received the Charles Maynard James Community Service Award. I am an active member of PHA-F&AM of the Maryland Jurisdiction. I am a Democratic Precinct Chair within the 20th Legislative District of Maryland. I served as a Montgomery County Chief Election Judge for the 2006 Primary and General elections. My former political positions include:
• Area Coordinator, 39th Legislative District of Maryland,
• Secretary, 39th Democratic Club,
• Vice-President, 39th Democratic Caucus.

I earned my B.S. in Computer Science from The University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I am a student of The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering and recently completed the Management of Systems Projects course as well as the Project Management (HBS 211) course with the Defense Acquisition University. My long-term aspirations include implementing Catalyst methods and principles in government in order increase the standard-of-living for each of us. I am an active member of The Peoples Community Baptist Church. My pastor, the Honorable Dr. Haywood Andre’ Robinson III, is a Leadership Montgomery Alumnus.

We have to change politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns. The formation of an exploratory committee allows me to accept contributions (services, monetary, volunteerism, etc). More importantly, your future endorsement would be highly valued. Please feel free to mail your endorsement questionnaire to the e-mail address listed below, if applicable. Capturing your ideas, support, and esteemed attention is significant in considering a 2010 political bid, and likewise joining an increasingly crowded field of Democratic hopefuls. I am going to talk with people from around the Maryland, DC, and even Virginia areas; listening and learning more about the challenges we face, the opportunities that lie before us, and the role that my Maryland campaign might play in 2010. Starting early August, I will provide jogging dialogue sessions, which I call “Jog Talk”. Sligo Creek Park offers an excellent jogging trail. We could also meet for a workout/swim/whirlpool/sauna at LA Fitness (www.lafitness.com)…free pass on me. Rather it is one-to-one or one-to-many, please call or send me an e-mail so that we could schedule a light jog or workout enabling me to get to know more about your aims and ambitions. I am greatly looking forward to working with you and continuing our conversation in the weeks and months to come.

Other than what is expressed on this page: www.thisguyisreal.com, here are some other reasons why I am considering running for Maryland State Delegate:

@ - In my neighborhood I have observed problems that should be fixed and I will help improve The State of Maryland for my family, friends, and neighbors.

@ - We need more technology jobs in Maryland by investing in Human Capital and drawing more large-scale employers to the I-270 technology corridor. Now that the ICC is approved (rather we supported or not), we need to make best use of it.

@ - People can call me and I will look into to their concerns and either fix their problems, or start working towards solutions, and honestly tell them what is being done.

@ - I will act on the behalf of my constituents, in the Maryland 20th Legislative District, not toward my own personal agendas.

@ - The most effective way we can get our voices heard is to run for office.

@ - OUR forefathers' legacies demand that I run.

@ - Many disenfranchised and under represented groups in Maryland have lost faith in OUR political process.

@ - I am considering running for delegate because I believe in America's Founders' fundamental ideals of freedom with compassion; preserving those rights and privileges considered essential by the general society, including civil liberty; and a common-sense oriented government.

@ - I believe that we do need a democratically elected government to maintain a waste-free and open society.

@ - The growing political climate and runaway spending in our state is taking its toll on every Marylander. Streamlining versus unreasonable tax HIKES will solve our problems. It's time for a change.

@ - The more I look at the incumbent's record(s), the more it seems that he or she is out of touch with the traditional values of the district. He or she doesn't represent the majority of us in the 20th district.

@ - Running for office gives me the soapbox to voice my opinions. In fact this forum is one of the few settings where I can exercise effective "free speech".

@ - I have heard the expression "We have come a long way, but we have MORE WORK to do" many many times. Maryland needs at least one person whom is ready to do MORE WORK.

Sinceramente Suyo…
