Many people know Jeff Merkley as a strong leader and an accomplished, progressive voice for Oregon. But for me, Jeff is the love of my life. He is the man who wrestles with the kids on the floor, picks up the gallon of milk on the way home, and fixes the broken screen door.
He is the man who believes in my dreams helps support me on my journey.
Today is Jeff’s birthday. It would be a wonderful gift for Jeff to see how many people share his vision and are ready to be a part of this grassroots campaign.But it’s not about how much people give. It’s about the number of people who join with Jeff.
Last year, I had a special dinner party to celebrate Jeff’s 50th birthday. We never would have imagined a year ago that we would be in the middle of this US Senate race now. There is no dinner party this year, but there is a campaign to celebrate.
I invite you to help us celebrate Jeff’s birthday and join in this courageous campaign effort.
If everyone gives $10 (to celebrate Jeff’s birthday in the 10th month of the year) to Jeff’s campaign today, we can do so much for Oregon and for the nation. Let’s make Jeff smile today with a bunch of unexpected $10 birthday donations.
One of the best parts of having a birthday in the Merkley household is the special ice cream cake I make for the birthday person. It’s a family recipe that’s come down through my family. When I was growing up,we only had this cake on Christmas Eve,but my family loves it so much that we have it on birthdays too—the birthday person gets to pick the flavors. (Our children will each tell you they have the best flavor combination.)
If you’re able to give $10 to the campaign before the end of this week I’ll send you a copy of our famous family ice cream cake recipe. It’s a favorite in our family and among our friends who have shared it with us.
If you’d like to give more to Jeff’s campaign, that would be wonderful too. Maybe you could send $51 to commemorate Jeff’s 51 years?
I wish I could give a slice of our family cake to everyone who supports Jeff’s campaign. But the next best thing is this recipe and hope that this week, we can all enjoy a slice.
