Christine Jennings has never been one to shy away from a challenge. She worked her way up from bank teller to president of the bank she founded at a time when women executives were rare. On her way to the top of the banking world, Christine served in numerous leadership positions with various banks before serving as President, CEO, Chairman of the Board and Director of Sarasota Bank. Christine’s 2006 bid for Congress made national headlines when the official 2006 vote tally showed that she finished 369 votes behind Republican Vern Buchanan in Florida’s 13th congressional district. Christine contested the election, noting the 18,000 undervotes in Sarasota County, a Democratic base, where voting machines clearly malfunctioned. While her challenge to the 2006 results is being investigated by a congressional task force, Christine is moving ahead with her plans for a rematch. Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, lists Buchanan as the most vulnerable Republican freshman in Congress going into the 2008 election cycle. Recently she has been endorsed by EMILY’s List and the American Association for Justice PAC. Former U.S. Senator Bob Graham congratulated Jennings and said “The citizens of America thank you for your offer of further service. I join them and offer you all my support.” Christine’s 2008 race is where your dollars can make the difference. Please consider making a contribution to this critical cause.
