We support Jeff because of his unique combination of decency, humility, wisdom, integrity, pragmatism and effectiveness. As Democratic leader of the Oregon House, he engineered the Democratic victory in 2006, and as Speaker, he led one of the most progressive and effective legislative sessions in Oregon’s history. He would be a tower of ideas and effectiveness in the Senate. And what a symbol for the proposition that the Senate need not be a club only for millionaires: that someone who has committed his or her life to public service can assume elective office at the national level.
