I’ve lived in the United States almost 30 years now; I moved here when I was eight years old. Like many of you, I’ve grown up seeing very few positive political role models who shared a background or heritage similar to my own. This is part of why I became so interested in politics in the first place; I felt my own community was under represented.

I would like to see Indians take on a more active role in our country’s politics. We have such a strong, intelligent, vibrant community; I believe it’s important for us to become more active and involved.

I’ve discussed this issue with many friends and family and they often feel the same way, but –just as often- they don’t know how they could get involved, even if they want to… They don’t know where to start.

My answer is simple: We can start by helping representatives from our own Indian community get elected to office.
