When Democrat Ben Chandler lost the Governorship four years ago, Kentucky slipped from barely blue to barely red. But the Democrat Party is on the rise. There is more energy in our party today than ever before. In 2006, we celebrated success at the local, state and federal levels. We saw an increase in our Democratic delegation in Congress, gained a State Senate seat through a special election, gained 13 seats in the State House of Representatives, and increased our number of elected officials in county courthouses from 62% to 69%.
2007 is a critical year for Kentucky because, come November, our voters will decide who their next Governor will be, and that decision will impact all of us. And it could very easily affect the outcome of presidential election in 2008. Right now, Kentucky is one of the best chances the Democratic Party has of turning a red state blue.
