When he ran for Congress in Nebraska’s third congressional district – one of the most conservative districts in the country – in the 2006 cycle, Scott said “You don’t run as a Democrat in the third district because it’s easy.” This philosophy – that you don’t do something because it’s easy, you do it because it’s right – is a great example of why I decided to put my life on hold to head out to the heartland to serve as Scott’s policy director.
Scott’s not running for U.S. Senate for glory or power. And he’s sure not doing it because it’s easy. Quite the contrary. Scott’s running for Senate because he has a sincere desire to put an end to the political wrangling that only further divides us and to serve as a voice for his fellow Nebraskans who desperately want us to come together and find solutions to our country’s problems.
In the Senate, I strongly believe that Scott will bring the thoughtfulness, the open mindedness, and the commitment necessary to help us get back on track. Though this may not be easy, I have faith that Scott’s the guy to try.
