We’ve got only days to go until November 4, and there are several hot races that affect the future of America’s food system. I’ve identified the committees that are most influential on our food system, and then found which members are in races are competitive. Money, canvassing, phonebanking, or any other form of support is crucial over the next few days!

Alan Grayson

FL-08 (Map)

Grayson is running about 7 points ahead of Ric Keller right now. Keller sits on the House Education & Labor Committee, which will pass the Child Nutrition Re-authorization in 2009. Keller is AWFUL on food and health issues, and as a member of this committee he’s sitting in a key spot where he can really screw us. Keller gets tons of money from the fast food industry and his loyalties are to them – not to the American people. Let’s boot Keller’s ass off the committee by helping Grayson!
If you give money to ONE person here, please make it Grayson.

Steve Kagen

WI-08 (Map)

Kagen is THE single and only GOOD member of the House Ag committee. The committee is mostly Democrats but it still ENTIRELY SUCKS. Kagen’s race is considered “light blue” as of October 28. He’s up in the polls by about 6 points.

OR-Sen (Map)

Merkley is as progressive as they come. He’ll be a fantastic ally in the Senate if he can beat Gordon Smith. Russ Feingold and Al Gore support Merkley, and we all need to support him too. It’s a close race, although Pollster.com calls it “light blue” as of 10/28. Please help carry Jeff over the finish line.

Jim Martin

GA-Sen (Map)

As of October 28, Martin is down by 2. Martin is trying to unseat the ranking Republican on the ag committee, Saxby Chambliss. And if you weren’t already aware, Chambliss is totally a douche.

Eric Massa

NY-29 (Map)

As of October 21, Massa had a 6.5 point lead in his race. We would get major bang for our buck here because he’s trying to unseat Randy Kuhl who serves on both the Ag Committee and the Education and Labor Committee.

As of October 28, she’s polling 7 points ahead. Shea-Porter serves on the House Education and Labor committee which will pass the Child Nutrition Re-authorization this next year. She’s a former social worker and she’s WONDERFUL.

Wulsin’s running against Mean Jean Schmidt in Ohio. The race is considered “light red” – Schmidt’s up by 5. Schmidt is on the Ag committee. It’d be nice to see her lose her job.

Franken is slightly ahead in the polls (although not beyond the margin of error), and Coleman is on the Ag committee.

Bruce Lunsford

KY-Sen (Map)

As of October 28, Lunsford was about 3 points down in the polls, enough to make Mitch McConnell’s seat considered “a tossup.” Mitch McConnell is HORRIBLE on food and health.
