OPPONENT: Phil Conder (2nd run)
AREA: West Valley City

***UPDATE: Dem. Rep. Fisher is only running slightly behind in fundraising (~$2K), but many consider this the most vulnerable Dem seat.***

      <pageblurb>PREDECESSOR: Karen Morgan
REASON FOR OPENING: Karen is running for State Senate.
OPPONENT: Jaren Davis
AREA: Mid-east Salt Lake County; Cottonwood Heights & parts of Sandy, Midvale & Holladay.

***UPDATE: Poulsen is trailing her opponent $3K tp $10K in fundraising and needs Democrats to step up now if she is going to defend this critical OPEN DEMOCRATIC SEAT!***

--Karen Morgan held this seat for 5 terms by running as a VERY moderate Democrat primarily focused, as an ex-educator, on education, as this area is outside the City limits and has plenty of conservatives.

--Marie Poulsen is an educator as well and should be competitive enough to win, though her opponent, Jaren Davis, is much more outspoken, well-known and will likely raise much more money. Marie is, however, hitting the pavement hard and knocking doors as tirelessly as any candidate in the valley, using the personal connection to minimize the impact of her financial weakness.

--After 10 years of holding this seat, it would be tragic to lose it.

--This will be a squeaker and could go either way.</pageblurb>

      <pageblurb>DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENT
OPPONENT: Drew Quinn
AREA: Salt Lake City: Olympus Cove down to Highland Ave.

***UPDATE: Dem. Rep. Riesen is engaged in a very tough competition, and both candidates currently have $7K on the books.***
***UPDATE: Riesen exposed a key Republican Representative for bribery (to get a vote for an unpopular school voucher bill) and is now under counter-attack.***

      <pageblurb>PREDECESSOR: Ralph Becker
REASON FOR OPENING: Becker elected Mayor, Salt Lake City
OPPONENT: Joe Jarvis
AREA: Downtown Salt Lake City and Avenues

***Update: Chavez-Houck has been outraised $20K to $10K and needs help now to defend this Dem. seat.***

--Chavez-Houck was appointed to this seat when Ralph Becker was elected to replace Rocky Anderson as Mayor of Salt Lake City.

--This is Chavez-Houck's first effort to win the seat by election.

--Chavez-Houck is a Zions Bank executive and community leader.

--Chavez-Houck should win this race, but it is a tough one and will go down to the wire.
