The reality is that we are living in difficult times—families are struggling to stay out of debt, keep their jobs, pay for skyrocketing health care, send their kids to decent schools and save enough for retirement.

Many are frustrated by the increasing influence of wealthy, special interests in electing officials and setting government policy.

The astronomical federal deficit, now at $520 billion, is squeezing state and local services to the breaking point. Every day we read about devastating cut-backs in funds for our schools, libraries, fire and police services, and our roads and infrastructure. Our economic security and the future of our democracy are in doubt.

We cannot sit back and wait for someone else to fix the crisis. We must join forces now to work to stop a powerful elite from undermining our quality of life.

As concerned citizens of Licking County, we believe that through organized citizen education and action, we can tackle statewide and national issues that impact our lives and elect candidates that will be accountable to us, not narrow special interests.

To accomplish this goal, a group of concerned citizens formed Licking County Pro-Active Citizens (“LICOPAC”), a progressive political action committee.

LICOPAC has established a website (www.licopac.org) that provides Licking County residents with educational information about issues of concern and an opportunity for residents to inform other residents about issues they view as important.

To increase its effectiveness, LICOPAC has joined the Ohio Coalition of Concerned Voters, a consortium of 18 citizen organizations in Central Ohio, that share our goal of giving average citizens a voice and a vehicle for political participation on a broad range of issues.

We need your help to ensure the success of LICOPAC. Without your support, we cannot go up against the powerful forces that are actively organizing to undermine our democratic values and threaten the economic security of all but the very wealthy.
