Lois Herr is running against Joe Pitts in Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional district. Pitts is a Bush/Delay acolyte who consistently votes for the most extreme right-wing agenda.
At 63, with a career spanning over forty years in business, education, and volunteer work, Lois Herr aims to be a citizen legislator, not a career politician.
“I have already worked for my community in many ways, most recently as chair of the Lancaster County Planning Commission and co-chair of the Growth Management Update Task Force.” Herr promised that once elected, she will work to bring jobs to this area and restore a government that can be trusted to make decisions about war and peace.
“My message,” she added, “revolves around rights, opportunities, and security for everyone, no exceptions.” By releasing this statement between Earth Day and Mother’s Day, Herr drew attention to the need for legislation that protects the environment and our people. “We have a moral obligation to be good stewards of the land,” she noted, “and we hold values that put a priority on caring for others.” Herr added, “I believe in supporting our families, and that includes maintaining our national commitment to social security – it is the safety net for retirees, the disabled, and dependents.”
Through her ancestral roots in the Anabaptist tradition, Herr brings an understanding of the importance of religious freedom and the need to promote interfaith tolerance. “In this era of strife and intolerance, it is important to negotiate, reconcile, and work together for a better world,” Herr concluded.
