The Lower Shore Needs Frank Kratovil

The environment is very important to those of us living on the Lower Shore, and it’s important to Frank Kratovil, an Eastern Shore resident running for Congress. Many of us live here to enjoy the beauty of the Chesapeake and its many tributaries, the Atlantic beaches and the coastal bays. Watermen, farmers and those employed in the important hospitality industry depend on the quality of the environment for their living.
Wayne Gilchrest, a passionate defender of the environment, is now leaving Congress. He was defeated in the Republican primary by Andy Harris, who ran a sleazy campaign funded mostly by outsiders. Andy Harris has been a staunch opponent in the Maryland Statehouse of legislation to protect our environment. Now he wants to take his radical philosophies to Congress.
Fortunately, we have a choice. Frank Kratovil, the State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County won the Democratic primary by waging a clean, respectful campaign that focused on issues, not personalities.
Frank is a strong supporter of the environment and is committed to preserving and improving the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore. He believes that protecting the environment requires effective advocacy and consensus-building.
He also believes that action must come not just in Maryland, but also in the neighboring states which send their wastes downstream into the Bay. Frank supports and will work for Federal action to require stricter pollution controls in upstream states.
During the primary, Andy Harris raised most of his money from outside Maryland, primarily from wealthy doctors and businessmen. We can expect more of the same during the general election. These are the people Andy Harris will represent if he is elected, not the people who live and work here.
So please help Frank Kratovil. If you can contribute a lot of money, we’d love to have it, but we recognized that many of us on the Lower Shore are living on a tight budget. So please join our four-step program to keep someone who will protect and defend the Eastern Shore in Congress – 1) Contribute what you can, even if it’s only a small amount, 2) e-mail this web page link to as many people as you can, 3) support Frank in his campaign and 4) vote for him on election day.
