In 1993, I volunteered for my second campaign, Michael Arcuri for Oneida County District Attorney. For the past 13 years, Iâve been frequently reminded of that campaign and the hopes and expectations Mike brought to public service.
In 1993, they said he was too young and that heâd never be able to raise the money heâd need. They never expected that he could win.
But, Mike Arcuri did win, against the odds, from behind, and maintaining decency against a negative campaign that attacked many of us. We had a great team, worked hard, and ran a smart campaign. We also had a lot of fun.
But it was as District Attorney that I was most reminded of Mikeâs belief in doing the right thing and public service. In this current White House where one can not think of any mistake heâs ever made and another says heâs sorry but never said he was responsible, Mike not only takes responsibility of mistakes, but he also acts to correct them. Mike has a strong sense of right and wrong and itâs balanced with strong compassion. Heâs intelligent and willing to learn. He can bring together people who say âit canât be doneâ and work with them to make it happen.
I’m not one to hide my belief that America has been led down the wrong path. Some days, it’s hard to recognize this as my home and the country that I love. Please make a contribution to this critical campaign not just for my district but for the country.
