In 2006, progressives made enormous gains in Congress. But the relatively slim majority in the House means that it’s still tough to pass progressive bills and impossible to overturn a presidential veto. In the Senate, right-wingers can filibuster any piece of legislation with only 41 votes.

Together, we can paint the map blue and put a real progressive majority on Capitol Hill.

Kirsten Gillibrand

NY-20 (Map)

Kristen Gillibrand is a top-notch, pro-choice Congresswoman who helped make 2006 a banner year for Democrats.

But Karl Rove wants her seat back and has named New York’s 20th district as one of his top House targets. We need your support to keep Gillibrand in Congress and show that the netroots has no intention of letting upstate New York go red again.

Steve Kagen

WI-08 (Map)

When Republican Mark Green left Congress to run (unsuccessfully) for governor of Wisconsin, Steve Kagen won the seat, replacing one of the most conservative members of the House with a pro-choice progressive who voted to raise the minimum wage and to support stem cell research.

Steve Kagen is on Rove’s hit list, and he needs netroots support to make sure that Democratic gains in 2006 hold strong against Republican attack.

Mary Jo Kilroy

OH-15 (Map)

Mary Jo Kilroy was defeated by a razor thin margin in 2006 -- less that 1%. This time, she’s given her opponent a place on Karl Rove’s list of most endangered seats.

With your support, Mary Jo Kilroy can defeat an incumbent Republican and give Ohio-15 the kind of representation it deserves.

Tim Mahoney

FL-16 (Map)

Tim Mahoney was fighting an uphill battle in 2006. That changed when bloggers published transcripts from Representative Mark Foley’s reprehensible online chats with Congressional pages.

Now Mahoney’s seat is on Karl Rove’s hit list and GOP supporters will be pouring massive funds into the race. We need your support to make sure Florida-16 stays blue.

Harry Mitchell

When Harry Mitchell defeated J.D. Hayworth, one of the most conservative members of Congress, commentators who didn’t understand his grassroots momentum were shocked.

This election, Mitchell won’t have the element of surprise, and the GOP has named Arizona’s 5th Congressional District as a high-priority target.

Ciro Rodriguez

TX-23 (Map)

Ciro Rodriguez is a true blue progressive in the heart of west Texas. Republicans have named Texas-23 as a top target, but with netroots support, we can make sure that money spent to defeat Ciro Rodriguez is money the GOP has thrown away.

Dan Seals

IL-10 (Map)

Republican incumbent Mark Kirk votes with George W. Bush 90% of the time, but claims to be “independent.”

In 2006, he nearly lost to a candidate who’s truly independent: progressive Democrat Dan Seals. Seals got 47% of the vote in 2006, and in 2008 he’s running again. With your support, IL-10 can have a representative who really stands up against the right wing.
