For twenty years I’ve fought to protect our Constitutional Rights, as a lawyer, media producer and community activist. I’ve helped end a pilot project that had theNational Guard accompanying police on drug raids, and helped prevent the police at the largest public University in Washington (UW) from carrying M-16s. I’ve been an active opponent of PATRIOT and the 1996 Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act as well as a longtime advocate for Impeachment.
I’m running because of what’s being done to our most basic liberties by some Republicans and Democrats. My opponent, a 32 year incumbent last week voted not only to grant the telecoms immunity for spying on citizens, but to give the Bush administration another $165 billion in military spending with no strings attached. He’s also supported the PATRIOT Act, voted for the 2007 Defense Authorization Act that allows military to be used against the domestic population for the first time in 130 years and co-sponsored the Orwellian Homegrown Terrorism Act that will study which ideologies should be illegal.
If elected I will work to move us from a permanent wartime economy to a sustainable one. I believe we can change to a sustainable economy as quickly as we became a full time war economy during World War Two. We can have sustainable jobs, healthcare and better education instead of a disastrous foreign policy and continued attacks on our civil liberties.
