When James and I had our wedding last year, over 120 people attended. James and I stood and exchanged vows, married in the eyes of our friends, family and, I believe, God, but not in the eyes of the law. That lack of recognition is a continuous source of problems as James and I begin establishing our lives together, and it would be wonderful if the law changed... but we know it will be many years before our marriage is recognized in Texas. The fight over gay marriage in Maine may seem a long way away, but to get to Texas, we will need to win the other 49 states first.

Maine is a state that currently allows gay marriage. That was approved earlier this year by the state's legislature. But there is now Proposition 1 on the Nov. 3 ballot to undo the marriage law and prevent further gay marriages. The race is very close. You can read details here.

Please help win Maine by contributing money. And if you happen to live in Maine, please vote NO on Proposition 1.

PS: We could also use some help with the campaign in Washington DC -- the city of DC is trying to push through referendum 71 to recognize marriages from other states. If you're tired of voting no, here's one you can vote yes on.
