When it comes to stem cell research, if you want to make as powerful an impact as possible with your donation, these are the candidates to support. We will update this page on an ongoing basis, always striving to give the strongest support to those candidates who have been strongest in their support of this critical research -- regardless of their party.

A strong advocate of stem cell research, Sherrod Brown is running for US Senate against incumbent Mike DeWine -- who recently voted against HR 810, the most important stem cell bill in years.

Brown is one of the few candidates who has even gone so far as to blog about this subject.

Ohio is a key state, and this is a key race.

Eric Massa is a 24-year veteran of the US Navy, running in the 29th district in New York against first term Congressman Randy Kuhl. Massa’s military background, keen intelligence, and powerful speaking style make him perfect for this rural district.

Massa has been a strong supporter of stem cell research, and has a very personal reason -- he is a cancer survivor himself.

Congressman Kuhl, on the other hand, has been an opponent of embryonic stem cell research, having voted twice against HR 810, the most important stem cell legislation in years.

A dynamic young Iraq war veteran, Patrick Murphy has been outspoken and forceful in his support of stem cell research. His opponent, incumbent Michael Fitzpatrick, has voted against HR 810 twice.

This is a district that backed both Gore and Kerry by 4%. It is a district that Murphy can win.

Missouri Senator Jim Talent voted against HR 810, and also opposes the Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative, slated for the November, 2006 ballot.

Democratic challenger Claire McCaskill has been one of the most ardent supporters of stem cell research of any candidate. The race is currently neck and neck in the polls, and fundraising could make the critical difference.

We had intended on focusing this page solely on Federal races, but for Chris Bell, a former Congressman now running for governor of Texas, we are willing to make an exception. There is simply no way to have a "stem cell champions" page of any kind without including Chris. It's hard to find another candidate at any level who has been as passionate and as vocal on this subject.

His leadership on this issue has been very personal, as his mother battled Parkinson's Disease, and his wife Allison is a breast cancer survivor. And Congressman Bell has been especially effective in evoking his Christian faith as a reason to support stem cell research.

Bell is the Democratic nominee for governor of Texas. It's a wild race, with 4 candidates polling at 10% or above -- and incumbent Rick Perry polling in the 30s.

Translation? Chris can win this race.
