We are having a party in Alameda to raise funds to help these Democrats take back the executive and legislative branches of our government. Have one of David Teeter's famous margaritas, or just come for great conversation.

DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE: An emergency room physician living in the Sacramento area, Bill is running for the second time to oppose Dan Lungren in the 3rd Congressional district. He supports universal health care, is an avid anti-war candidate (even writing an anti-war song in 2005), promotes renewable energy, and supports "clean money" campaigns.

Bill is a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran from the Vietnam war.

District 3 includes Alpine, Amador, and Calaveras county, parts of Solano county, and much of Sacramento county (outside of Sacramento proper)

LOCAL FAVORITE: Lt. Colonel Chalie Brown, a 26-year veteran of the US Air Force, is a favorite among East Bay progressives, running against Tom McClintock in California's Republican-dominated 4th congressional district which covers the northeastern corner of California (El Dorado county and northwards.) In 2006, he lost to John Doolittle (now retiring) by only three points. Recent polling shows Brown narrowly ahead of McClintock, with a large 'undecided' contingent controlling the outcome.

CA-11 (Map)

DRAGON SLAYER: McNerney was the most famous freshman congressman in 2006 (and got that nickname) after he defeated Richard Pombo, thanks to a huge outpouring of grassroots support. After a career in renewable energy, McNerney was urged by his son to run for Congress in 2004 when no other Democrat had stepped up for the challenge. During his career in wind energy, McNerney's work contributed to saving the equivalent of approximately 30 million barrels of oil, or 8.3 million tons of carbon dioxide!

PROGRESSIVE *AND* FUNNY: Al Franken is fighting for green jobs in his home state of Minnesota. He's proposing a national "Apollo project" to fuel the development of new technologies in clean and renewable energy. Most known for his work on Saturday NIght Live, Franken has become known for his political commentary on Air America radio, and for writing best-selling political books. Franken has opposed the Iraq occupation for years and favors single-payer Health Care.

Franken is running in a dead heat with Republican Senator Norm Coleman.

Kay Hagan

NC-Sen (Map)

CLEAN ENERGY HERO: As a state Senator in North Carolina, Kay Hagan has been a strong supporter of solar power. She pushed to require North Carolina utilities to adopt renewable energy. Hagan is taking on incumbent Senator Elizabeth Dole, who allowed big oil companies to keep $13.5 billion in tax breaks while taking huge contributions from the oil and gas industry.

Poll watchers didn't expect Hagan to have a chance, but this is now one of the most closely watched Senate races in the country.
