We have a real chance in 2006 to remake Congress; to take seats away from those on the radical fringes of the Right Wing; to slowly shift Red areas Purple and Purple areas Blue.
This is a list of candidates running for winnable Red seats. I also added some Senate seats we should help out on.
I hope you’ll contribute to their campaigns and help them to help take America away from the right wing extremists.

Democratic National Committee

Perhaps the single most important thing you can do is contribute to Howard Dean and the DNC. His 50-State Strategy ensures that every race in every precinct in every county in every state is paid attention to. All 50 States are worth fighting for. And the Democratic Party needs to rebuild itself from the ground up. And that’s what the DNC, under Howard Dean, is doing.

OK. There’s just no reason in the world for FL-22 not to be Blue. None, zero, zilch. Klein has served this district in the state senate for 8 years and, I think, he is our best chance to take this seat.

What a background! Angie is a Ph.D who played professional basketball and taught high school. She’s the Chair of the Democratic Majority Caucus in the Colorado House of Representatives, and she’s a competitor. I think she’ll win this one!

I’m just pleased as punch with Bill Winter. I figured CO-6 would turn Blue when IL-5 turned Red. But, the kind of Democrat who will turn CO-6 Blue is a “Fighting Dem”. Here’s a guy who did a tour with the Marines, then the Navy, played football, coached, worked as a substitute teacher, and a lawyer. You’d need an apple pie thrown in there to make him a better fit with the words “All-American”. Bill Winter may not be the biggest progressive in the world, but he’s exactly the kind of Democrat who can take this seat.

Montana has been turning bluer and bluer these past few years, and with people like Monica Lindeer, it’s not hard to see why. I think 2006 will be the year that Montana turns blue head-to-toe.

The link to the website is down, so here’s his bio in a nutshell. Joe Donnelly, a graduate of Notre Dame, is the owner of Marketing Solutions Inc. He is also an attorney with Nemeth, Feeney & Masters in South Bend. He was a candidate for Indiana State Senate in 1990, and a member of the Indiana State Election Board from 1988-89. He has also been on the Board of Education for Mishawaka Marian High School for five years. Donnelly was the Democratic nominee in 2004 against Congressman Chocola, where he held him to less that 55% of the vote.

Of course any Ultrageek would support Darcy Burner… she’s a techie herself, after all. But more, this former Microsoft executive has a real shot of knocking another red Congressman out of a BLUE district!

IL-10 (Map)

It is a sin against nature that IL10 is RED. This is a district that has voted Democratic since Moses parted the waters. Mark Kirk beat Lauren Beth Gash in this district by claiming to be her identical twin politically but cuter. Mark Kirk is no centrist, and certainly no Democrat, and it’s time for him to go.

A solid progressive candidate from Southeast Wisconsin. The current incumbent is as far to the right as this guy is the left. If this district swings, it’s gonna swing big!

Any Democrat who runs in Wyoming gets my support. And it looks like Gary’s serious… if you’re looking for the biggest bang for the buck, a dollar spent in a race in Wyoming is worth a lot more than a dollar spent in a higher cost district. And, a seat is a seat. Let’s send Gary to Washington!

MT-Sen (Map)

Jon Tester is the Senate President of the Great State of Montana. He’s smart. He’s progressive. And there’s no question he’s going to be the next senator from Montana. Not only is he a great candidate, but his opponent, Conrad Burns is a great guy to run against. Burns’ numbers to reelect are about as low as they can go in a state that is turning bluer every day.

In moving forward, we also need to guard our flanks and make sure that we support our vulnerable members as well as trying to increase our presence in both chambers. Michigan’s junior senator needs our help to keep her seat.
