I have believed since 2004 that Virginia is a state that can be slowly turned blue. The elections of 2005 and 2006 show that I am right. Let's keep up the momentum! I think we can win VA-11, VA-10 and VA-2...maybe even VA-5, if we keep at it. We can make a good run at winning a Senate seat in VA. AND we can make Virginia a real battleground state in the 2008 presidential election. I have never believed Democrats should abandon ANY state, let alone the entire South. And I think Virginia is one of the key Southern states.

VA-Sen Democratic Nominee Fund 2008

VA-Sen (Map)

Virginia has a Senate race in 2008 and we need to start early if we want to win it. This seat is currently held by the horriible John Warner (R). John Warner gets a D+ on Veteran and defense issues by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Association, an 8/100 on seniors issues from Alilance for Retired Americas, a 14/100 on environment from LCV, 16/100 on labor issues from AFL-CIO and 21/100 on choice from Planned Parenthood. Contributions to this fund will be sent to the Democratic nominee upon his or her selection.

VA-05 (Map)

Tom Perriello is running for Congress in the VA-5 district against Republican Virgil Goode. Tom has work withed child soldiers, amputees, and local pro-democracy groups in Sierra Leone played a significant role in the peace and reconciliation process that ended twelve years of violence in that country. He then became Special Advisor and spokesperson for the International Prosecutor during the showdown that forced Liberian dictator Charles Taylor from power without firing a shot. After this success, Tom served as a national security analyst for the Century Foundation. He has worked inside Darfur and twice in Afghanistan. This is the kind of leadership we need in Congress! He is raising record amounts of money to defeat the incumbent Republican. This year I am sure we will pick up this seat.

VA-10 (Map)

This seat (VA-10) is currently held by Frank Wolf (R). Judy Feder is our candidate in this district and she looks to have a great shot at winning. This race is being heavily targeted by the DCCC and the Republicans are running scared.

Judy Feder's three decades of health policy experience will make her an invaluable leader in transforming how Washington does business. She began her career researching ways to make health care more affordable. A widely published scholar, Judy worked at the Brookings Institution and Urban Institute before joining the faculty of Georgetown University in 1984.

In 1988 she served as Staff Director of the Congressional Pepper Commission, the bipartisan commission on comprehensive health care. In 1993, she was appointed to the Department of Health and Human Services, where she worked to expand health insurance coverage, manage Medicare and Medicaid effectively, and assure the safety of food and drugs.

Judy is a professor and, from 1999 through 2007, was Dean of Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute. Her combination of scholarship and government experience have made the institute one of the nation's most respected training grounds for public policy leaders.

VA-11 (Map)

This seat (VA-11) is currently held by Tom Davis (R)...who unexpectedly announced retirement. This district is fairly evenly split Dem/Repub, so there is a good shot at flipping this seat. This becomes a top tier race all of a sudden! Gerry Connolly is our candidate in this district.

Connolly has been endorsed by: Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics (IAFF Local 2068), Prince William Professional Firefighters (IAFF Local 2598), International Association of Firefighters, Fairfax Coalition of Police (IUPA Local 5000), Fairfax Deputy Sheriffs Coalition (IUPA Local 5016), International Union of Police Associationson, and many others.
