It is vitally important that we win as many seats in the House and Senate as possible this year, to take control from the Republicans and give the country a chance to be able to make the Bush administration face justice for their lies and misdeeds.
If, like me, you live in a so-called “Blue State,” you may feel like your role has been limited, and that you can have no voice in how the country votes. However, we can not only make our voice heard in battleground states, but we can help candidates there make their case to their constituents.
Since my family is still in Nevada, and sometimes I think my heart is, too, I feel especially hopeful that Nevada can be part of a Progressive renaissance.
I believe candidates with strong, sound stances deserve our support, and these are races where your dollars can make the difference. Please make a contribution to this critical cause.
Please join me in donating to these candidates.

Son of President Jimmy Carter, Jack Carter is facing Nevada incumbent Senator John Ensign, who has sided with the Bush administration on everything from the Iraq war to stem-cell research. Ensign needs to go.

Dina Titus

NV-Gov

Dina Titus has served as Senate Minority Leader in the State Senate for close to 20 years. Titus is a straight-talking, intelligent progressive voice in the state of Nevada. Her opponent, Rep. Jim Gibbons (vacating Congressional District 3), has also been a staunch ally of the Bush administration. Nevada needs Dina.

Tessa Hafen grew up in Henderson. I don’t know her, but I do know members of her family. Her web site mentions bringing the troops home, and universal care for children, which, in Nevada is still an amazingly controversial position. She’s running against former Nevada Secretary of State and GOP operative Dean Heller.

Jill Derby

Jill Derby is a longtime pro-labor Nevada Democrat, and is in a neck-and-neck race against incumbent Rep. Jon Porter, who was the fifth largest recipient of money (of 170 Republicans) from Tom DeLay’s PAC. Derby has been endorsed by all the major progressive organizations and has had campaign visits from General Wesley Clark and other Dem stars.

Shelley Berkeley is the incumbent District 1 Representative, and isn’t particularly progressive, but it is important that we not lose this seat.

Midwest Values PAC

Not a Nevada cause, per se, but MVP is a progressive group I trust to fund candidates and causes I believe in. It was formed by Al Franken, in preparation for his probable 2008 Senate run from his home state of Minnesota.

One America

Also not necessarily a Nevada cause, but John Edwards’ group believes in the elimination of poverty in America, and I’m all for that. I also like Edwards as a presidential candidate for ‘08.
