Mike McDermott – Westland City Council
Mike McDermott is running for re-election to Westland, MI City Council. During his time on City Council, Mike stood up over and over again for working families and those in marginalized communities across Westland. He has worked with first responders to reform the police department by adding a social worker, substance use disorder specialist, and domestic violence advocate to the first response system in order to advocate for folks who need help, not put them in jail. He has worked to adopt a Responsible Contracting Ordinance that ensures that all City contracts pay a living wage, good benefits, and operate without workplace safety violations. He has contributed to the expansion of public wi-fi at city-owned properties, as well as the availability of digital hotspots to close the digital divide. Mike hopes to tackle the understaffing of the Westland Fire Department, continue to support those suffering from substance abuse disorder, and work to make utilities more stable and affordable for Westland residents in his next term.
